AMARILLO, TEXAS - A major wind energy project should start this spring after years of controversy.  The Texas Public Utility commission has approved a $190 million transmission line from White Deer to Hereford.

The 91 mile route will by-pass Amarillo and the Palo Duro Canyon, unlike other previously proposed routes. Wind energy experts consider the lines a key part of the growing green energy industry.

It should be completed in about 18 months. After that the company will re-evaluate if even more transmission lines are needed in the area.
