Amarillo man will spend 12 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter

Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo man will now spend 12 years in prison for his role in a fatal accident in December of last year.

33-year old William Shad Stephens pled guilty to intoxication manslaughter Thursday morning in a Potter County courtroom.

Officers say Stephens was not only drunk when he caused the accident, but that he had bonded out of jail just 24 hours earlier, on another charge of DWI.

This particular incident spurred changes in procedure, which means repeat offenders must see a judge before bonding out of jail.
