New Warning, Old Phone Scam

AMARILLO, TEXAS - There's a new warning tonight about an old phone scam resurfacing in Texas.  In it, inmates are preying on the kindness of strangers from behind bars.

Victims will receive a collect phone call from the Harris County Detention Center. According to the Better Business Bureau, the inmate scammers tell people who pick up the phone they reached the number by mistake. And if the person answering presses star-seven-two, the charges can be reversed. But that actually gives inmates control to make unlimited amounts of expensive calls from your phone account.

When this scam really hit hard in 2009, several people from pampa lost hundreds of dollars. Phone companies recommended you put a block on all collect calls on your account so it doesn't happen to you. Also never press the star button on your phone with contact the company first.
