AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo police have launched a new effort to deter thieves.
The new crime fighting tool is called Data Dots and NewsChannel 10 is told Amarillo Crime Stoppers is the first crime stoppers program in the country to sell the kits and help fight crime.
The Data Dots are tiny markings you can put on your valuables. They have microscopic registration information printed on them.
So if you are the victim of a burglary, police can trace the stolen items back to you.
"The bad guys, the thieves around Amarillo realize this is here, its not going to go away. This is what we're going to try to do to help curb or slow down theft in Amarillo.I'm hoping it takes a big impact on the city." said Corporal Sean Slover with the Amarillo Crime Stoppers.
A kit for the Data Dots technology is about 25 dollars, and with that kit you could mark several items.
