Borger, Texas - A Borger man spends months in Haiti, trying to help re-build the ravaged island nation and this afternoon, he sat down with NewsChannel 10's Kristen Guilfoos to talk about his progress so far, and why he says his work is far from over.
When Ben Conner's good friend's school and orphanage were destroyed in the January earthquake, he knew he had to do something.
So, after many months of gathering supplies, equipment, money and manpower, he finally shipped out to Haiti in September... He's been in Borger visiting his family for the past week, and tomorrow he flies out again.
He and a small crew from his construction company are working with a Haitian crew to re-build the 20,000 square foot building... Which will serve as a school for 600 kids.
They're making steady progress, but money is tight and the working conditions are almost unbearable.
He says, "I think within 3 months we'll have the second floor built. Have the building erected. I'm hoping we'll have at least the bottom floor done by March."
The project's price tag comes in at around $2 million.
If you'd like to help Ben raise money, you can call Grace Fellowship Church in Borger at (806) 274-3205.
