Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo woman is indicted for allegedly stealing her child's social security benefits.

The United States Attorney's Office says 50-year-old, Blanca Alvarez, was indicted on two counts of social security fraud and one count of theft from the government.

Investigators believe Alvarez stole over $25,000 from June of 2001 through December of last year.

They say she made false statements to the government saying that she was caring for a child and taking the social security money, but the child was in care of the State of Texas.
