Amarillo, TX - Call it the case of the baby-sitting burglars. Amarillo police Thursday afternoon arrested two men who allegedly burglarized an Amarillo home with a child in tow.
Officers were called to the 3200 block of Fleetwood Drive about 1:20 p.m. after a witness watched a man enter a residence, remove items from the house, and place them near an alley, according to police. Another man then placed the items in a car. The witness called police and gave them the vehicle description, license plate number, and direction of travel.
Police stopped the vehicle near the 3200 block of Janet Drive and found stolen items inside - along with a 2-year-old child, officers at the scene said.
Police charged the driver, Charles Moore, 18, and passenger, Eric Scott Bell, 24, with burglary of a habitation. A third man found in the car was released. Officers said the investigation continues and additional charges are pending.
Police said Moore was baby sitting the 2-year-old for his girlfriend, who is the child's mother. The child, who was not harmed, was later released to the woman.
