Muleshoe Murder Conviction

MULESHOE, TEXAS - Less than five months after the crime, a jury has convicted a Muleshoe man in that town's July 4th murder.

20-year-old Daniel Mendoza will spend eight years behind bars for his role in the shooting death. Police say the victim 19-year-old Rolando Saucedo was chased in a two block shootout before being gun downed in the 500-block of West Avenue B. Investigators told neighbors more than 20 shots had been fired in that chase. Several of those went in the direction of a next door neighbor's house where children were sleeping inside.

There is a second defendant in this case. 25-year-old Michael Garcia is still behind bars waiting for his trail in January. The Bailey County DA says she believes Garcia is just as involved in the death as the man going to prison.
