Amarillo, TX - We're learning more about an Amarillo man who authorities believe shot and killed his own son.
We now know the names of those involved in the homicide that happened on Blue Bonnet street late Saturday night. Rodney Lane Dunlap, 60, is now charged with the murder of his son, Joshua Lane Dunlap, 30.
"We received a call around 7:48 on a subject who called in and said he had shot someone here [8406 Bluebonnet] at the residence." Potter County Sheriff Brian Thomas says.
When deputies arrived they found Joshua dead with at least one gun shot wound to his upper torso. Authorities then arrested his father, Rodney, and took him in for questioning, eventually charging him with murder.
"This is still under investigation," Sheriff Thomas says, "It appears to be some type of family disturbance."
With many questions remaining unanswered, Sheriff Thomas says after speaking with family and neighbors, it does not appear as though there was any sign of something like this happening.
"Neighbors we talked to and the canvas we've gotten nobody has heard anything or said anything," Sheriff Thomas added.
The Potter-Randall Special Crimes unit is now investigating this incident.
An autopsy of Joshua's body is ordered to take place Monday, November 8, in Lubbock and his father, Rodney, is in the Potter County Detention center on a $1 million bond.
