Sweets For Soldiers

Amarillo, TX - Might sound strange, but some local dentists are asking area children to collect as much candy as they can this Halloween.

Dentists at Amarillo Pediatric admit Halloween isn't there favorite time of the year and instead of asking kids to stay away from the candy they're telling them to go after it.

The Dentistry are asking kids to donate a majority of their candy they collect Halloween night. It will then go directly to soldiers overseas. Last year, those involved in this project collected more than three hundred pounds of candy to give. This year they are hoping to double that.

Dr. Shane Moore says it's an easy way for kids and their parents to fight cavities.

"It's great for the dentist to buy candy we're paying $2.00 a pound and it's going to save all of these kids because if they eat too much especially the super sour super sweet candies they can actually drop the pH level in there mouths and create tooth decay within hours," Dr. Moore said.

Kids who choose to hand over their candy will receive $2.00 for every pound they donate.

You can bring by your candy to Amarillo Pediatric Dentistry at 2455 I-40 West on Friday November 5th from 3:00pm - 6:00pm
