Amarillo to get new baseball team soon

Amarillo, Texas - The deadline to submit bids has just passed and Potter County could well be on it's way to getting a new baseball team.

Four groups have submitted bids to be Amarillo's next baseball team.

The deadline was two on Monday afternoon and all of the bids came in at the last minute, including one from the Dillas current ownership group, who still owes Potter County $75,000 in lease payments for this year.

The next step in the process is for County Commissioners to look over the bids and vote on which one will be best for the area.

It's a decision that's going to have to be made quickly if they want to ensure baseball stays in town for the 2011 season.

Potter County Attorney Scott Brumley says "Because of ticket sales and advertising packages and everything they present for the upcoming season, something has to be done by November is what we're told."

The amounts the baseball organizations are bidding to lease the Dilla Villa aren't being released right now, but the county says they will be interviewing each candidate to make sure they're able to make the lease payments.
