Amarillo Globe-News names new executive editor

AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - The 44-year-old leader of an award-winning Virginia newspaper has been named executive editor of the Amarillo Globe-News.

Lee Wolverton spent three years at the News Virginian in Waynesboro, Va., where he was editor and general manager. The newspaper won almost 50 Virginia Press Association awards under Wolverton. That included the group's highest honor, the Community Service and Journalistic Integrity Award, last year.

Wolverton started as a sports writer in 1986 at the Beaver County (Pa.) Times. He worked for several newspapers and magazines in Ohio and Pennsylvania before joining the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, where he was assistant metro editor. He also was an investigative reporter at The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla.
