AMARILLO, TX - The League of Women Voters will host the first debate between the District 87 State Representative Candidates.

Democrat Abel Bosquez, Libertarian James Hudspeth and Republican Four Price will square off, hoping to win the seat of retired State Representative David Swinford. Swinford occupied the seat for nearly 20 years, until his retirement in August.

One topic expected to be hit on at the debate is the candidate's strategies for re-districting. All three candidates tell NewsChannel 10, they will do what they can to make sure the Panhandle does not lose representation.

"We need to divide the lines evenly, so the districts are good for the people, not the politician." said Bosquez.

"Move some counties from the 88th district to the 87th and 86th, to help meet population requirements." Hudspeth tells NewsChannel 10.

"It is critical that the person elected have a good, working relationship with others in the Panhandle. Together, we have a strong voice." said Price.

The candidates are expected to discuss other topics like: public education, illegal immigration, and renewable energy.

The debate starts at 6:30pm, Tuesday and will be held at the Texas AgriLIFE Auditorium at 6500 Amarillo Blvd.
