CANYON, TX - Staff and students at West Texas A & M University are busy preparing for thousands of alum and Buffs fans coming in the Panhandle this weekend.

City and school police are stepping up extra staffing and precautions for the Centennial homecoming weekend.

Currently, WT  is in the middle of several projects, like the construction of a new dorm and parking lot. Administrators say, that shouldn't cause extra strain to those driving.

"The homecoming parade, the football game, the bonfire, they are all located on the perimeter of campus. I don't think construction is gong to adversely effect traffic control." said Lt. Patrick Coggins, Director of Police Operations on campus.

Coggins reminds everyone, WT is a dry campus.  There will be officer checkpoints making sure people are sober while in the area.

City of Canyon police are also cautioning everyone to be extra careful while in the congested areas this year.  The city will display a fireworks show after the game. The fireworks were originally set to be on display during the Fourth of July, but due to bad weather, they were postponed until this weekend.
