Attorneys set to argue in Leach lawsuit appeals

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Attorneys for Texas Tech and Mike Leach will give oral arguments to justices of an Amarillo appeals court in the former coach's lawsuit against the university over his firing.

No decision will be made after Thursday proceeding in Lubbock before a three-judge panel of the Amarillo-based 7th Court of Appeals, which occasionally convenes in other cities within its jurisdiction.

The school is appealing a trial court judge's ruling in June that, by its conduct, the university waived its right to sovereign immunity in Leach's breach of conduct claim. Leach's attorneys are appealing the judge's dismissal of several other claims in Leach's suit.

The university fired Leach Dec. 30, two days after suspending him amid allegations he mistreated a player with a concussion. Leach has denied mistreating Adam James.
