CLOVIS, NM - Police are investigating a pair of severe child abuse cases they say are unrelated.

Two infants under the age of six months were in a Lubbock hospital , Monday evening, both in critical condition recovering from brain surgery.

According to investigators,  the mother of a 6 month old boy, Amanda Fain, is charged with child abuse after her baby son was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital and rushed into brain surgery last week. Investigators haven't said how the baby boy suffered the injuries.

Just a week before the baby was taken to the hospital, his father, Jonathon Grubbs was arrested on domestic abuse charges towards Fain. Neighbors tell us, the father, was constantly taking care of the couple's five children and appeared to be a good dad. However, they do tell us, they would see both Clovis police and child, youth and family services visiting their house on Johnson.

Neighbors are outraged and believe the baby's injuries could have been avoided.

"Are they crazy?  how could somebody take an innocent baby and do that? They should do something to people that do stuff like that." Exclaimed neighbor Sandra Lopez.

Monday evening, both parents are in jail.  The other severe child abuse case under investigation involves a one month old girl. Police tell NewsChannel 10,  the baby was taken to the hospital after she was not digesting formula.  We're told, she suffers from a fractured skull and broken ribs. Police haven't released the details in the case, but no arrests have been made.
