Clovis, NM - The Clovis Fire Department has a new Battalion Chief Saturday, but it's not who you'd expect.

Twenty-Year-old, Brooke Hankin, has lived in Clovis her whole life, and her life hasn't been easy. Her immune system is very weak and her days are mostly spent in her home to protect her .

It's been a decade in the making, Saturday was Brooke Hankin Day at the Clovis Fire Department.

She has become a friend to the Clovis Fire Department the last 10 years, and anytime the department is out on their dinner run or has extra time they stop by to see Brook.

And for these firefighters, who are used to battling the heat, Brooke certainly melted their hearts.

They say she is their number one fan. She has become a daughter to the department.

"She is a inspiration to us. We complain about some lil' thing, and then we see Brook and what she has to deal with within life, its motivation for us, kids are special to us, especially Brook."

The firefighters all chipped in and bought her a traditional fire fighting helmet complete with her name, and leather honorary badge, and a ride in the new fire truck. Something her dad, Mike, says is special for her.

"They have taken a special girl and given her a special place. I think its as much about them as it is Brook, this is amazing honor for her, but its a real reflection on the people that serve Clovis here."

When we asked Brooks family what she does for fun, they said spending time with her family. She also enjoys Mickey Mouse, singing, dancing and of course fire trucks.

"Her 13th birthday was spent at this fire station and from then on its grown. we spend a lot of time in the back of ambulances, the guys are really good to come by the house and take her for a ride."
