Amarillo, TX - If you have the bed bug problem, you're not alone. Local exterminators tell us, thousands in our area have the same problem, and it's only getting worse.

From yard sales to traveling, now a days bed bugs can get inside your home any number of ways. Local exterminators say this problem is just the beginning.

"A couple years ago we probably didn't have five bed bug calls," Brad Turner said from Lady-Bug Services.

Now they're dealing with hundreds, Turner says the main problem is people think they know how to treat them. "They've wound up scattering the bed bugs," Turner says, "They've got them into other rooms and it makes our job much more difficult."

Lady-Bug and other local exterminators came together yesterday to learn how to squash this problem.

"Bed bugs was the main concern at the convention," Turner says, "Because that's where all of the calls are generating. We have different products available now and we have different techniques available now"

Experts say the bugs will live at the seam of the mattress so if you think you might have them you can always steam them away and if you don't have access to a steamer you can always mix rubbing alcohol and water together and spray them away.

Or if you want to wait for new technology, Turner says this will soon be available for people in our area.

"This is actually a bed bug trap," Turner says, "This will be placed at the legs of the bed and it's got a slick surface on the inside or if the bug crawls in from the outer side it won't be able to get back out."

The device won't be available for the next couple of weeks, and experts tell me it is safe for children and pets to be around.
