Making More Money

AMARILLO, TEXAS - Despite the recession, people in Amarillo are making more money on average that ever before. New information out Monday from the federal government shows the mean wage in the city is now $17.29.

That's up a little over three percent from last year's $16.74. For a full time worker at 40 hours a week, that translates to about $1,150 extra a year.

Most economist contribute the increase in wages to a federally mandated raise in minimum wage during the same time period. They also add it is possible that more skilled laborer, higher paying jobs are coming into the area.
