CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Clovis police say a young boy crossing the street after an older sister was struck and killed Sunday.
The police department says 4-year-old Xavier Salcido was pronounced dead at Plains Regional Medical Center shortly after the crash.
Investigators say a 46-year-old woman was driving an SUV when police say the boy ran in front of her.
The woman attempted to swerve but could not avoid striking the child.
Police later learned the boy was following his sister and a group of older children who had crossed the road. They apparently were not aware the boy had followed them.
A police news release says no charges are expected to be filed.
