Amarillo, Texas - An attempt to grow one Panhandle industry could end up hurting another. Sharyland Utilities is building transmission lines to connect White Deer and Hereford.

They have 12 potential routes, and the one they're seriously considering runs right along Sundown Lane on Amarillo's southern-most edge... Right where the city's major growth is happening.

Developers are speaking out about it, saying those lines, which stand 140 feet tall, will be an eyesore, and reduce property values, as well as halt potential growth in that area of town.

Rockrose Developments Vice President Matt Griffith says, "a hundred different protest letters have been submitted, along with other companies and businesses and brokers and real estate developers that have chimed in with their letters stating look if this area is impeded by growth our interest in this community, the retail centers that we wanted to bring to this community will be seriously in jeopardy."

Griffith stresses this wind project is an important one, and he, as well as many others opposing the south Amarillo location, are doing just that... Opposing the location only.

To voice your opinion on the location, you can call the Texas Public Utilities Commission at 512-936-7000. You'll need to reference docket 38290.
