AMARILLO, TEXAS - The Potter County grand jury decided Thursday that sheriff's deputy Steve White was justified when he shot Gary Don Carner to death.

Carner went on a crime spree in early August where he tried more than once to abduct young girls.

He shot to death Sharrel Blankenbaker while she tried to shield her three granddaughters from him.

Deputy White shot Carner a short time later near the area of Blessen Road and Jim Line Road.

The district attorney says without the help of the victims in this case, it would have been a lot more difficult to track carner down that night.

Randall Sims said Thursday, "the civilains involved in reporting the crime, being victims of the crime, and calmly telling the people the descriptions of the vehicle absolutely contributed and being able to apprehend the person at the time he got caught.

Sims believes even more violence could have broken out if not for the help of those people.

This is the latest development in a long line of officer involved shootings in 2010.
