Amarillo, TX - One Amarillo organization is counting their pennies hoping to expand into other Panhandle Counties.

Every time an officer or a firefighter approaches a crime or a fire they are risking their lives for us.The 100 Club of Amarillo provides assistance to the families of officers and firefighters who are disabled or killed in the line of duty."There is a emergency purpose like we say to bridge that gap until other sources become available,"100 Club Executive Director, Dwain Knight, said.

The three year old non profit is hoping to expand out into the 26 counties of the Panhandle. You can join for $100 a year. "We want to expand our territory, were only covering Potter and Randall counties," Knight said.

He hopes to expand with the reserves they currently have to help them expand to the 26 counties in the Panhandle.

The annual Battle of the Badges is a major fundraiser that has firefighters and police officers in a boxing match. This years match brought close to $38,000 for the 100 Club.

The original 100 Club started in 1952 as a Detroit officer was killed in the duty. A business man got all of his friends together and each donated a $100 to his family.
