DPS Labor Day Reminder

Amarillo, TX--State troopers and local police officers will be working together this Labor Day weekend to make sure all drunk drivers are off the roads.

According to AAA, 10% more Americans will be hitting the road this holiday. Because of this, Texas state officials are putting more officers on the streets making sure the roads are safe.

During the Labor Day weekend last year, 715 Texans were arrested for driving while intoxicated and officers issued more than 13,000 speeding tickets.

In 2009, nearly 1,000 Texans died in alcohol related crashes.

Officers want to remind you that drunk driving is not only deadly, but expensive.

A first DWI conviction can cost up to $2,000, six months in jail time, and a suspended license for two years.
