SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico National Guard troops bound for the border with Mexico have completed their training, and the 82 soldiers have been deployed on the border.
President Barack Obama in May ordered 1,200 National Guard troops to boost security along the border.
Both California and Arizona announced deployments last week.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson says violence along the border with Mexico has been a major concern.
The National Guard troops assigned to the border area have undergone training with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and Department of Homeland Security as well as military training.
The governor's office says they will provide criminal investigative analysis and entry identification teams along the border.
