Amarillo, TX - There is extra security on the way for elderly veterans.

Its called the senior crime stoppers program. The program provides personal lock boxes to thousands of elderly Americans living in nursing or assisted living homes.

Now the foundation is expanding their initiatives to provide extra security to elderly veterans homes. Including the Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo.

"People think there isn't crime in veterans homes, we're finding it is an issue. This program has decreased rates by 92% where we installed senior crime stoppers"

Tuesday afternoon, Happy State Bank received national recognition within the program for donating $1.25 million dollars to crime stoppers.

The program will now funnel the money to veterans homes across the state of Texas.

Nursing home administrators tell us the lock boxes also give the veterans an extra sense of independence while staying in the homes.
