North Amarillo Family YMCA receives Business of the Year Award

Amarillo, TX - The North Amarillo Family YMCA has received the business of the year award for its record of hiring employees who are blind or visually impaired.

The Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services is in charge of deciding who receives the award.

DARS is dedicated to ensuring that disabled Texans have the same opportunities as anyone else does in the state of Texas.

"It's always good, always good to be recognized because it allows you to reflect on who made it possible and its just a good honor for us to receive. We get a lot of recognition in other ways but we haven't ever gotten recognized like this before, so it's a good feeling," Myron Simms, North Amarillo Branch Manager said.

DARS administers programs that help Texans with disabilities find jobs through vocational rehabilitation and ensure that they can live independently in their communities.
