More NM students take ACT

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Some 12,679 New Mexico high school graduates - or 66% of the class of 2010 - took the ACT college admission and placement test.

That's according to the ACT's annual Condition of College and Career Readiness report.

State Education Secretary-designate Susanna Murphy says New Mexico continues to increase participation and to eliminate barriers in taking the test.

She also says more of the state's students are taking core college preparatory courses.

Students who took four years or more years of English and three or more years of math, social studies or natural science generally scored two percentage points higher than students who took the minimum requirements.
