Amarillo, Texas - We now know the name of the man shot and killed by an Amarillo Police officer on the Boulevard late Monday night.

32-year-old Ruben Flores, Jr. drove a stolen Schwan's truck into this light pole after being shot by police. This came after Officer Jowell Bullard says Flores tried to run him over with the truck while he was setting out spike strips in the middle of the intersection around 10:30 on Monday night.

Special Crimes Lt. Gary Trupe says, "He said all he could see was that big truck coming at him and felt he needed to get out of the road and do something to protect himself. It struck him on the right side of his body high up into the torso."

Witnesses say they saw at least eight police cars chasing Flores and all of the officers immediately jumped out of their cars when they heard the shot. An eyewitness tells us, "I saw him lying there and they gave him CPR for a good five or ten minutes."

Ruben Flores, Jr. was 32-years-old and lived in Amarillo. This was not his first offense. He has three felonies out of Potter County, including two counts of misconduct with a child and indecency by exposure.

Also on the list is a public intox conviction from Potter County and a misdemeanor theft in Randall County. Officer Bullard is on standard administrative leave for the next three days.

Authorities believe most of the incident was caught on dash cams, which they're hoping will speed up this investigation. This is the seventh officer involved shooting to happen in Amarillo so far this year.
