Amarillo man accused of trying to kill a police officer sentenced to 80 years

Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo man accused of trying to kill a police officer has been sentenced to 80 years in prison.

Michael Duane Brown was sentenced today in connection with an incident in April where police say he tried to run over an officer with a stolen car.

Police opened fire on Brown as he drove off, hitting him once in the leg.

He was found a short while later hiding in the trunk of a car near 34th and Western.

Brown was sentenced to 40 years on the charge of attempted capitol murder and received two additional sentences of 20 years on separate charges.
