Amarillo City Commission Criminal Investigation Results

AMARILLO, TEXAS - A special investigator has cleared the Amarillo City Commission of all wrong doing stemming from March's open meetings act complaint.

It all started with a March ad in the paper where all four commissioners endorsed a candidate in the Texas House District 87 representative race.

A local lawyer filed a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office arguing - by all coming together in support behind closed doors, the commissioners broke open meetings requirements. Thursday the opinion came back from a San Antonio area attorney assigned to the case. That letter says he found no violations of law.

The investigator said because it does not involve any public business over which the commissioners have control, there was no wrong doing. If the investigation had found them guilty, the commissioners could have been charged with misdemeanor counts carrying a small fine.
