Hero grandmother remembered

Oklahoma - Sharrel Blankenbaker saved her granddaughter's life Tuesday night as she was shot in the back while fighting off a kidnapper at the Love's Truck Stop just west of Amarillo.

NewsChannel10's Ali Allison reports on how her family in Felt is remembering her.

Cassidy Blankenbaker says her grandma was the best women in the world. She died saving her life Tuesday night after she picked her and her brother up from the airport to stay with her for two weeks.

She was a woman of GOD and everyone loved her. "She would do anything for anyone.. She prayed with us when we were going thru something hard...she was so great," says Cassidy.

Sharrel was married to Dale Blankenbaker for over 36 years. They have 3 boys and 8 grandchildren. She was part of the Kiros Prison Ministry for more than 12 years.

Her husband told us today she did the right thing fighting for her own. "She was doing her grandmothers dutiful job...she saved her grandchild", said Dale Blankenbaker.
