Summer Slump for Charities

AMARILLO, TEXAS - Dozens of Amarillo charities need your help. They say the need is up and the donations are down. It's a trend some call the summer slump.

The United Way sponsored 211 call center keeps tabs on non-profits all across town. They say many local charities fall into this trend because of increased need related to back-to-school preparations and higher energy costs.

The people at 211 also say out of the whole year, kids are helped the most during summer months. So if non-profits suffer then, that's passed on straight to the area's youth.
