Amarillo, TX - Two men had no choice but to land their 4 passenger plane in a Randall County pasture.

Often when a plane is forced to land somewhere other than a runway, the result is not pleasant. This isn't one of those stories.

Chad Ollinger has been flying this plane out of Tradewind Airport in Amarillo for a little over two years. But until today, he has always landed the plane back at Tradewind Airport.

"We were heading back to Tradewinds, we were about 10 miles east of Tradewinds and the next thing you know the engine fails."

Olinger's cousin and passenger Jason manning was along for the ride, "get our thoughts together, see what's plan B and see if we couldn't get the engine back going and when we realized we couldn't we had to land in a field."

The Bellenca Cruise Master first made contact with the field here before finally coming to rest about 200 yards to the south.

"In training that is all we do. Just in case emergency situations, but never had anything this close. It was an experience," Ollinger says.

Both men walked away unharmed.

Something Manning is greatful for, "he did an unbelievable job. I don't know how he did it but he did and all I can do is thank God,"

Ollinger tells NewsChannel 10 he has always wanted to be a commercial pilot. And this morning's near disaster will have no effect on those plans.
