Amarillo, TX - With more construction on area roadways, The Amarillo Police Department is standing by making sure drivers are slowing down. Work Zone signs are placed all around each construction location and that gives drivers no excuse.

"Instead of the normal $200.00 for disobeying a warning sign the fine goes up to a maximum of $400.00 if workers are on site," The Amarillo Police Department Sgt. Brent Barbee said.

Officers are patrolling construction zones throughout the entire area, and most recently they have been working on Soncy and Hillside. TxDOT workers have expressed their concern with police saying drivers are ignoring the warning signs.

"This is why we put a slower speed limit here," TxDOT Paul Braun said, "We brought it to 50mph where it's normally 60mph and 40mph where it used to be 70mph, there are also barrels on the site and they are there to warn people to slow down and notice the construction workers."
