Christmas in July

Amarillo, TX - The slumping economy is forcing retailers to look for different ways to attract customers.

Retailers are looking to get customers shopping during a traditionally slow time of year. Most families are spending their money on summer vacation, or dealing with unemployment.

Sears is selling Christmas items in a special store section, that's caught some customers attention.

"They like the fact that we've started in July. They're excited about village pieces. They want to get the collections before then."

Toys R Us is also rolling out big discounts in their stores, in hopes to increase foot traffic.

But shoppers don't need to head to the stores for big deals.

"Right now there's some sales online better than probably in the stores, depends on the item you're looking for, again you reduce some overhead."

And although retailers are rolling out discounts right now, it may be best to wait until Christmas, which is still considered the biggest shopping holiday.

"Christmas is probably the ultimate time to go shopping. You can get the bigger bargains because there's a lot more people shopping."

The best advice maybe to shop around, whether it's in the store or on-line, and depending on how long you can wait for that special item to go on sale.
