Amarillo, Texas - The historic Fisk building in Downtown Amarillo is still about four months from being transformed into a Courtyard Marriott, but on Wednesday, developers opened up the doors for the first time to a few local residents.

NewsChannel 10's Kristen Guilfoos was in that group and gives us a sneak peek. The decades old Fisk building is on the corner of =Eighth and Polk... It's been vacant for years, until two brothers from Dallas decided now was time to bring it back to life.

The work being done on the outside of the Fisk building is obvious... But the work being done on the inside was kept under wraps until now.

We got the chance to tour the ten story, 107 room hotel on Wednesday morning. The views from the rooms are impressive... with scenic shots of downtown Amarillo from nearly every angle. Next it's downstairs to what will be the lobby.

Center City's Beth Duke says, "It's gonna be totally high tech. An electronic concierge go board that you can touch and find out about all the attractions in Amarillo and directions to all your restaurants. A few steps away you'll find the "S" bar... Serving appetizers and Starbucks products. To get there, you'll walk across the building's original terrazzo floors.

Hotel Owner/Developer Chuck Patel says, "We were able to negotiate with the Historical Society side and the Marriott side to say where should we leave them and where should we keep them." Developers say they've done their best to preserve this piece of Amarillo's history... Leaving all but three of the building's 485 windows right where they were.

The Courtyard Marriott is on track to open around Thanksgiving, but they'll light up the thirty foot sign for the first time during the Polk Street Block Party on August 21st.
