Dumas gets new school for first time in 40 years

Dumas, Texas - Dumas' economic boom means more people are moving to the city, which of course means more kids are going to school there.

It's growing so fast that the superintendent tells us, the district is setting records. Larry Appel says, "actually for the last few years we normally grow a .5% to 1.5% a year. A few years we've actually declined a percentage point or two. But we've never had a 10% growth over two years or two and half years."

To deal with the over-crowding problem, a brand new school for 5th and 6th graders is set to open this fall. It's a $15 million facility... And one that's been a long time in the coming.

The last time Dumas built a new school was more than 40 years ago, back in 1966.
