Dumas... A window to the past

Dumas, Texas - There's no doubt about it, Dumas has changed drastically over the past 100 years.

But, there's one thing long-time residents say has stayed the same... The people are just as friendly and welcoming today as they were when the first residents moved here in the very early 1900s... Even if they had to work a little bit harder back then.

Terri George, Window on the Plains Museum Director says, "you had your family would go out on a Saturday afternoon and collect cow chips. And they would put the cow chips in the oven and it would make a real quick fire. And then heat the oven up, get it ready to cook."

Even as we entered this modern world filled with chain stores, Dumas held on to it's small-town operations.

Phillips & Son General Store served the people in Dumas from the very early days all the way up until the 1990s.
