Amarillo, Texas - Lately, with not much being mentioned on the War on Terror...it might be easy to forget that soldiers could still use some items from home as they're away from their loved ones.

It was evident on Wednesday night, when a local non-profit organization invited about a hundred people to come out and put together some care packages to send overseas to our soldiers.

Less than ten showed up at the home base of the organization... Socks for Soldiers. They put together packages for four different platoons.

On July 15th, care packages full of toiletries, wipes, socks and snacks will go out to about 250 soldiers...items that will help bring some comfort from home.

Socks for Soldiers President Carolyn Miller says, "We got a letter yesterday they have no communication with the U.S...they have no phones, no computer, no television and they have electricity only once or twice".

Carolyn says this is why it's important to get these care packages out to these soldiers. The items are purchased through private donations...including the postage.

So far this year...Socks for Soldiers has sent 21 boxes at a cost of over $400 in postage.

The organization always welcomes monetary donations and they can never have enough volunteers, but they are in need names and addresses of soldiers in war zones.

They'd like to send care packages to as many of them that they can...and remind them they're being thought of.
