How to get your stolen property back

Amarillo, TX - The Canyon and Amarillo Police department have a room full of stolen or found bicycles. Police told NewsChannel 10 it's because people aren't filing a police report and/or they don't have the serial number that was on their bicycle.

"Owners aren't coming forward," Canyon police officer Aaron Savage said, "A lot of times when we take these bike reports they don't have serial numbers which is the information we need in order to find the owner." The serial number is located on the bottom of the bike frame, and you need that number in order to reclaim your property. If you don't have that number than your property could end up elsewhere, "Otherwise it will end up in a police garage somewhere and then it will go to an auction," Officer Savage said, "the #1 thing is, don't leave your bike in you front yard or not locked up."

We do not know at this time when or where the auctions be taken place, but if you do have a bike that has been stolen call it in and if you don't know the serial number try to give very descriptive details about the bike.
