Some call me "Mr. Weather", but those who know me best simply call me Kris! I have a 4 year-old son named James, and he is my pride and joy! I was born in Albuquerque, NM, and my parents are from Clovis. I grew up in Albuquerque and went to La Cueva High School were I played varsity football as a left guard and center. I was also a member of the La Cueva speech and debate team, and even competed in the national tournament in Washington, D.C.
I began my college career at Eastern New Mexico University. Upon arriving at Eastern, I had planned to pursue a degree in Bio Chemical Engineering but a few days after September 11, I joined KENW TV - 3 and News 3 New Mexico, the leading PBS affiliate in Eastern New Mexico. There, I was a reporter and photographer, but soon moved to weather. I graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a B.S. in Broadcast Production, and a Minor in History. I have also completed a second B.S. in Atmospheric Science (Geo-sciences) with Mississippi State, and am currently working on my Masters in Communication. I was the weekend Meteorologist and weekday photographer with the KZTV Action 10 News.
After spending two years in Corpus Christi forecasting hurricanes and local weather, I longed to return to my Eastern New Mexico roots. In late 2007, I accepted the position of morning meteorologist and co-host of Today in Amarillo with KAMR NBC4, were I spent a year chasing twisters. I moved back home to the 505 after almost getting killed in a storm chase, to raise my son James, and take care of my family.
I have just accepted the position of weekend Meteorologist with KFDA News Channel 10 and get to work with my idol Doppler Dave Oliver and storm chase once again! Anything else you want to know just ask!
