Amarillo, TX - Finding out your child is diagnosed with leukemia is devastating, and hundreds of families in our area are working together to overcome this deadly disease. Today Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and The Children's Circle of Friends invited hundreds of patients to Thompson Park where they could meet others who are going through the same thing.

Dr. Regueira who works with the patients every day says events like this one are important because it lets the kids have fun with others who are going through the same thing.

"That's the most important thing the feeling of a group, that they are not just singled out because they have a disease, you mention the word cancer and people are kind of unsure of how to respond to it."

The Smith family has been battling leukemia for two years, and their little girl, Camryn, finishes treatment September 27 this year. Camryn and Olivia are twins, and one of them is diagnosed with the disease. "She's my hero," Julie Smith the mother of the girls said,"she is definitely inspiration."
