Texas Democrats to rally at convention

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas gubernatorial candidate Bill White is hoping to ignite excitement among Democratic Party loyalists as the party's state convention starts.

The former Houston mayor takes the stage Friday night to address convention-goers in Corpus Christi.

White just got an endorsement from former President Bill Clinton. White and Clinton are criticizing Republican Gov. Rick Perry as divisive and an opportunist out for himself.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said White is trying to run from city financial problems he left behind in Houston. Miner also said the Clinton endorsement shows White sides with Clinton and President Barack Obama on health care, the environment and other issues touted by liberals.
