Portales man's murder conviction upheld

New Mexico - The conviction of a Portales man accused of killing an elderly couple in 2005 has been upheld.

46-year-old Stanley Bedford was sentenced by the New Mexico Supreme Court to 120 years in prison for the deaths of Odis and Doris Newman.

Authorities say Bedford, along with the Newman's nephew, 37-year-old Jerry Newman, kidnapped the couple then burned them in the trunk of their car.

Newman is currently serving a 127 year prison sentence.

The supreme court unanimously ruled Wednesday that there was sufficient evidence to support the convictions and that Bedford did receive a fair trail.
