Court upholds convictions in death of Clovis boy

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The state Supreme Court has upheld the convictions of a Curry County man for the death of a 10-year-old Clovis boy who was shot in 2005 while asleep in his bedroom.

Demetrio Salas was sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years for the murder of Carlos Perez. Salas was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges, including attempted murder, shooting into a dwelling and causing death, intimidation of a witness and evidence tampering.

Salas fired shots at the bedroom that Perez shared with his older brother, and one bullet struck the child in the head. The older brother, who was not injured, was the intended target, according to authorities.

The court issued its decision on Tuesday.
