Amarillo, TX - A new tool should make people in Potter County safer according to the Sheriff's Department.

Currently when Potter County deputies are dispatched to a location they are given certain information regarding the incident with little detail, but since The Sheriffs department received a $400,000.00 grant last year to upgrade their system, and it was finally approved today at the Commissioners Court meeting.

Sheriff Brian Thomas said, "The officers will now be able to see and hear the same information the dispatchers do and it's something that's never been done before." Sheriff Thomas added that the new system deputies will have the capability to research a residence upon arrival making it safer for homeowners and Potter County Deputies.

Now that the software is approved, they have to wait until the end of October for approval of the $93,000 hardware that will store all of the information. If approved, the system should be fully installed by April 2011.
