Amarillo, Texas - Republicans across Texas are speaking out about illegal immigration, saying something needs to be done now. NewsChannel 10's Kristen Guilfoos has more on what local Republicans have to say about their party's decision to back a law like Arizona's.

Republicans from all over Texas get together once every other year to discuss the future of the Grand Ole Party... And this time their main focus was on illegal immigration.

They decided to back a platform that would bar illegal immigrants from "intentionally or knowingly" living in Texas... It's almost identical to the controversial Arizona law.

Local Republicans say it's something that cannot be ignored any longer since the feds aren't keeping up their end of the bargain when it comes to enforcing laws already on the books.

Potter County Republican Chair Tom Roller says, "it's just like the speed limit law. If we have the speed limit but everybody's running 10 or 20 miles over the speed limit it's like we can have all the laws we want but it's not working so we're gonna have to put out more policeman on the roads, more signs. We're gonna have to do something to make it work because we have to many accidents. It's the same thing. It is not working."

This is nowhere near becoming a law yet... This just means the Republicans are officially endorsing the idea.

Right now, all signs are pointing to legislation being introduced during the legislative session in January.
