Blast Prompts Call for Action

Posted: Updated:

AMARILLO, TEXAS - What happened in Darrouzett is the second deadly pipeline explosion in Texas this week. Flames also ripped through the air near Cleburne on Monday - killing one worker there.

Two accidents happening so close together both in time and location seems strange. But the number of pipeline problems is growing in Texas and US Representative Mac Thorneberry wants to see something done to keep people in the panhandle safe.

Thornberry told NewsChannel 10 in a written statement, "there are safety procedures that should keep these kind of accidents from happening. We need to figure out what went wrong and incorporate those lessons to help prevent accidents in the future."

In Texas last year, the number of gas line significant incidents was up almost 40 percent - jumping to 55 from 40 in 2008.
