Preventing Pregnancy: No App For That

Amarillo, TX - Being able to prevent pregnancy by the touch on your iPhone is what many teens in our area are doing. Women wanting to become pregnant may be aware of the rhythm or calendar method - but local doctors say many teens in our area are using it hoping for the opposite affect - and they're doing it in the palm of their hands.

Smart phones are good for a lot of things..texting..talking...tweeting.. But there is one thing they aren't good for - birth control - and many teens are downloading it in seconds...

iP or iPeriod, an app that can send women alerts letting them know when their period is starting and when they are ovulating, and teens can mistake this for the rhythm method.

This method doctors say, is for women trying to become pregnant so they will know when they are the most fertile to increase their risk of having a baby - something teens are misunderstanding. This could be contributing to the fact that our area has one of the highest pregnancy rates in the state of Texas.

If you're wanting to prevent pregnancy, doctors say...there will never be an app for that.
